Pooh Corner (Not Winnie the Pooh)

Warning: The following paragraph may not be suitable for individuals without children, or an aversion to descriptions of bodily functions. Viewer discretion advised.

Little Jonah Horner, pooped in a corner, after eating his rice and yogurt. We have discovered that anytime he is going to poop, he heads into a corner of the room for a little privacy. He then points to the bathroom, wanting to have his diaper changed. Hopefully this lends itself to efficient potty training when we get back to the US.

We have had some small victories.

He sat in a high chair.
He did not cry when we put him to sleep last night.
He did not cry when he woke us this morning.
He used sign language to say please this morning.
He wore a bib at breakfast this morning.

There are so many transitions that are harder to make at 18 months as opposed to starting them as an infant and having them be the norm. We are very pleased with how adaptable he has been. Certainly the language barrier is difficult for both of us. We were reminded last night of the Far Side cartoon with a dog owner speaking to his dog and all the dog hears is blah, blah, blah, FIDO, blah, blah, blah, FIDO. All Jonah hears is blah, blah, blah, JONAH….and the Jonah piece is probably only about 15% of the time.

Our major goal today is to get him to sit in our backpack carrier (thanks for the present Nate and Lisa). He has showed a strong aversion to it so far, but carrying him in our arms around the city is really exhausting.

Oh the joys of bodily functions shared by so many parents. It's funny how a little memory like that is a blessing!

So, I was thinking. We have two children that we could arrange their marriages with your children. BUT by far Summer Beach would be the best one!

:) We're excited to meet you Jonah! Wear your best cologne!

The Morrison's!

Honestly, I think Jonah has a thing or two to teach Abbie. Last week she decided to change her own dirty diaper (without much success) and I found her after she had been on three levels of the house. Nice.

I'm pretty impressed with your "small" victories. Those are pretty big to me! So many changes for the little guy. We've been praying he'd be adaptable and I'm so glad God has blessed him that way. Sounds like he's growing accustomed to your family in a wonderful way.

I remember when new people would join our church, Pastor John would say that there was something our church body needed that the new member had, and vice versa. Adoption seems to be a special version of the same thing. I'm excited to watch what God reveals in the whole process.

And we can't wait for you all to come home! We're praying about the visa thing ...

Bets - I miss you!

Love,
Rachel

We have a "Potty Elmo" that we just got back from being loaned out, and plan to use soon, otherwise we would GLADLY loan it out again! It was a "gift" from my brother. The girls have gotten a huge kick out of it - and Kettly has been sitting on the potty for M and Ms. I'd be glad to lend it to you. You can have the pleasure of hearing "La de Da de - Elmo's on the potty! Oh oh - Elmo's got to go! Oops - Elmo didn't go in the potty!" (all in the squeaky Elmo voice - and complete with "tinkling" music) Complete with a magnetic potty chair that works with his hind quarters. Maybe Target sells these???? You should check it out! In fact, you could order it from Target.com and have it on your front steps when you get home!!! Merry Christmas Jonah!
